Education Outside The Classroom

At Musselburgh School we believe that learning can take place anywhere - within the classroom, school grounds and local environment and community. EOTC enables students to make connections between classroom learning and learning beyond the classroom, encouraging students to demonstrate the key competencies of managing self, relating to others and participating and contributing.


Musselburgh Schools Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme offers fun and stimulating experiences that enable students to explore their environment, take risks, learn safe practices and new skills individually and as a collective.

These experiences include:

  • Camp

  • Ice skating

  • Swimming activities (IRB, snorkelling, diving and kayaking)

  • Sailing

  • Local day walks

  • Mountain biking

  • Surfing

  • School trips to; Quarantine Island, Botanical gardens, Otago museum and number of musical event such as Ukulele Jam

  • Marae trips

  • Pasifika and Kapahaka festival
