Cornerstone Values
Musselburgh School has been "Building Character Through Cornerstone Values" since 2006. Cornerstone Values are sets of consistent, universal and transcultural principles which inform and direct our actions and activities. More detailed information can be found at the official Cornerstone Values website.
Each term we focus on a value. Teachers teach specific lessons and create colourful displays of children's ideas to share their learning with peers, parents and visitors. We highlight students who exemplify the value in their daily school life and celebrate this at Start the Week Assembly each Monday morning. At the end of each term all students vote for two students in their class who win Super Hero awards.
The Cornerstone Values are:
Honesty & Truthfulness: Wiilingness not to steal, cheat, lie or be unfair. This means telliing the truth.
Kindness: Willingness to help, show concern for and be friendly to others. This means being a friend.
Consideration: Willingness to be kind, thoughtful and consider the interests of others before self. This means thinking of others.
Compassion: Willingness to help, empathise with, or show mercy to those who suffer. This means helping those in trouble.
Obedience: Willingness to help obey rightful authority. This means doing what you are asked for those who care.
Responsibility: Willingness to be answerable, to be trustworthy and accountable for one's conduct or behaviour. This means being trustworthy.
